Willlilam Donald Nisbet

William Donald Nisbet, better known as Don, of Tucson, AZ passed away on December 9th, 2023, peacefully in his sleep. Don was born on January 15th, 1923, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico to Gladys (Turner) and William Nisbet. After high school Don Joined the Army Air Corp where he was a pilot for 3 years. After the Army Air Corp, he worked for various places until he decided to go to college. He went to the University of Colorado for Engineering. He graduated magnum cum laude. After college Don became a Civil Engineer, eventually owing his own Firm, LONC established in 1962. He retired from Engineering in 1999.

While in Denver he met Esther Smith deceased May 15, 2018. It was love at first sight for Don and six weeks later they were married on March 10, 1945. They went on to have two sons Larry and John “Jack”.

Don enjoyed traveling with Esther around the world. They traveled to Scotland, Mexico, Chile, Turkey, and many other countries. They also loved traveling around the US to jazz festivals and the Indian Market Days in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They lived a very happy and full life.

Don and Esther moved to Green Valley, Arizona in 1997 to spend time in the warmth of Arizona and close to longtime friends from Colorado. Six years ago, they moved to Tucson, AZ to be closer to their son Jack.

Don was predeceased by his parents William and Gladys, his brother Robert, and his wife Esther. He will be greatly missed by his sons Larry (Ruth) of Centennial, Colorado, and Jack (Cindy) of Tucson, Arizona. Four Grandchildren and Four Great-grandchildren.

Don was laid to rest in the Nisbet family plot at Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico on Saturday, December 16, 2023, alongside his wife, grandparents, parents, and brother. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 20, 2024 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John Dansby officiaitng.
