Tony L. Gutierrez “Tony the Tiger”, 93 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025 in Albuquerque, NM.
Tony was born on May 10, 1931 in Santa Rosa, NM to Gonzalo Gutierrez and Donaciana (Lucero) Gutierrez. He was raised in Santa Rosa, where he also attended school. Following school, Tony honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was a sergeant in the Korean Conflict as a Combat Medic. He married the former Teresita Baca in 1950 in Santa Rosa. A life-long catholic, Tony was a parishioner at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
In his career, Tony worked for 29 years for Farmer’s Electric as the Head Serviceman. In his spare time, Tony was a member of American Legion, Post 36 and Veterans of Foreign War, 11338 in Santa Rosa. Tony was a Cowboys fan and a jokester, and particularly enjoyed the time he spent with his family.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Teresita, his daughter: Veronica Gutierrez, grandchildren: Denise, Jaelyn, Jayaire and Patrick, daughters-in-law: Darlene Gutierrez and Bernice Gutierrez, his siblings: Joe L. Gutierrez, Manuel D. Gutierrez, Carlos Gutierrez, Ramona Jiron, Mary Sisneros and Gene L. Gutierrez.
Tony is survived by his children: Arcenio Gutierrez of Albuquerque, Isabel (Ruben) Saiz of Puerto De Luna, Diana (Patrick) Chavez, Albert Gutierrez and Molly (Mario) Andrada—all of Santa Rosa. Also surviving Tony are: 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 1-6pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 13, 2025 beginning at 10am at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa.
Interment, with military honors, will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa with Amillia Chavez, Xavier Fiero, Cesar Fiero, Javante Chavez, Christian Chavez, Abel Chavez and David Salazar serving as Pallbearers.
