Tommy "Hokie" Quintana

Tommy “Hokie” Quintana, 73 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Tommy was born November 28, 1949 in Amarillo, TX to Patricio Quintana and Rose (Padilla) Quintana.

Tommy attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School from 1st through 8th grade where he played basketball as a St. Rose Hawk. He served as an altar boy at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for many years. Tommy attended Batson Barber School in Amarillo in the summers beginning his sophomore year of high school. He was already a licensed barber by the time he graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1967. He participated in football and basketball throughout high school. Tommy also attended Highlands University before joining his father Pat as a barber at Pat’s Barber Shop. He worked as a barber for 35 years. Tommy greatly enjoyed watching and participating in sports throughout his life. He played both softball and city league basketball for the Sun N Sand Sandmen, and later, the Romero’s Fina Panthers. He remembered the years, scores, stats and players of various sports and games that took place from the time he was young. Aside from his appreciation of athletics and talent as a barber, Tommy was an avid gardener, musician, songwriter and poet, having published a book, “Lunitidal Cultivation, Weeping Trees, and Fowl Language” in 2014. Tommy will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents: Patricio and Rose Quintana, his wife Linda Quintana, brothers: Patrick, James “Beak” and Wayne Quintana, brother-in-law: Rudy Salazar and daughter-in-law Debra Romero.

Tommy is survived by a son: Andrew Quintana, daughter Megan Quintana & Kevin Campos, his beloved grandchildren Major Johnson, Willow Johnson, Aries Campos and Luke Campos, his brother Manuel Quintana (Antoinette), his sisters: Barbara Baca (Alfred) and Stella Salazar and sister-in-law: Theresa Quintana.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 11am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Nuestra Señora Del Refugio Cemetery in Puerto De Luna, NM. A meal will follow at the Blue Hole Convention Center.

Urn Bearers will include: Gilbert Fajardo, Luis Montano, Ernest Sanchez, Paul Sanchez, David Sanchez, Andrew Sanchez, Michael Andrews, Patrick Andrews, Alfred Baca, Davy Delgado Richard Chavez, James “Bozo” Cordova, Tim Baca, Kris Baca, David Quintana, Pat Marez, Gilbert "Gibby" Romero, Richard Perea, John Perea, Louie Romero, Steve Wiberg and Danny Romero.

Honorary Urn Bears will include: Rico Baca, Brian Quintana, Paul Quintana, Zach Quintana, Matthew Salazar and Dathion Gomez.
