Teofilo "Ted" Chavez

Teofilo “Ted” Chavez age 82 passed away December 10, 2020 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. Ted was born on July 15, 1938 in Pinos Wells, NM to the home of Esequiel and Flora Chavez y Chavez. He was preceded in death by his parents and his lap pal Ms. B. Ted leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Humphrey-Chavez, children, Nadine Blythe (Matthew), Gary (Lori), Michael (Cindy), Zeke (Ann), Peter (Carolyn), Neil (Maria), Grady, and Bryant. Brothers Dennis (Sally), Lou (Etta) and Sister Joan Chavez-Garcia. Grandchildren Catherine (Ben), Naomi, Leandra, Maxine, Johnny, Kathy, AJ, Carly, Vanessa, Sandra, Alex, Erin and Elyse. He also had numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. In his youth, Ted worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, owned various businesses including Ideal Conoco, Bel-View Motel, TJ’s Lounge, Wade’s Bar, Jambo Construction, and Ted Chavez Trucking. Ted enjoyed ranching with his Dad and with his horse King. Ted was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hobbies with his sons, including flying his airplane, hunting, fishing, boating and golfing. Ted was always available to enjoy a “cold one” with his family and friends. Ted is going to be missed by friends and family. A family viewing and rosary was held at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner. Cremation followed. Services will be held at a later date in Albuquerque and Vaughn, NM. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico. (575) 355-2311.
