Steven L. Cordova

Steven L. Cordova, 77 of Santa Rosa, NM passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Steven was born in Pastura, NM to Onofre Cordova and Veneranda (Campos) Cordova on June 5, 1947.Steven was raised in Puerto De Luna and attended school in Santa Rosa—graduating from Santa Rosa High School.

In April of 1975, Steven married the former Maggie M. Romo at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Albuquerque, NM. In Steven’s career, he was an Iron Worker, belonging to the Iron Worker’s Union 495 for 30 years. Following his retirement from iron workers, Steven began a second career as a propane distributor for 20 years. All the while working as a rancher.

A life-long Catholic, Steven was a faithful parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Steven was an active rancher, who loved race horses, hunting and fishing, and gardening. Steven also was a Las Vegas Raiders, Braves, Lobos and Santa Rosa Lions fan. However, Steven’s greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family, his children and grandchildren.

Steven is preceded in death by his parents Onofre and Veneranda Cordova, his mother-in-law: Juanita Romo, his siblings: Umelio Cordova, Amelia Cordova, Adan Cordova (Helen), Rebecca Sandoval (Paul) step-siblings: Juan Cordova and Alice Sanchez, sister-in-law: Victoria Cordova, brother-in-law: Eddie Romo and nephews: Randy Cordova and Edward Romo.

Surviving Steven are his wife: Maggie, his children: Helen Apodaca (Sam), Onofre Cordova (Selina) and Silvie Rodarte, his grandchildren: Jacob and Emma Apodaca, his siblings: Eduardo Cordova (Aurora), Adolfo Cordova, sister-in-law: Adela Romo as well as numerous Godchildren, nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 1-5PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary is scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 2025, beginning at 7PM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Jacob Romero officiating the service.

Interment will follow at Nuestra Señora Del Refugio Cemetery in Puerto De Luna, with Jacob Apodaca, Trinnie Rodarte, Patricio Cordova, Vicente Cordova, Richard Cordova, Gary Cordova, John Cordova, Mark Cordova, Raymond Cordova, Nico Cordova and Benny Sandoval serving as Pallbearers.
