Visitation for family and friends of Silvester Roybal will be held Friday, July 29, 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am followed by the funeral Mass. Father Sotero A. Sena will officiate. Pallbearers will include Mario Roybal Perdoza, Joey Lopez, Christopher Roybal, Martin Roybal, Michael Robles, David Perdoza, B.J. Casaus, and Toby Roybal. Honorary bearers will be all his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Cremation will follow the services. Interment of cremains will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 6, 2022 at St. Anthony Cemetery in Fort Sumner, NM with Deacon Edward Sena officiating. Silvester Joe Roybal, 92 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Sunset Villa Care Center in Roswell. He was born November 19, 1929 in Yeso, NM to the home of Silviano and Cipriana (Marquez) Roybal. Silvester grew up in Yeso. Silvester married Ancesion Chonita Sanchez on November 22, 1948 in Santa Rosa. They made their home in Yeso, NM. Silvester operated the Overton Mercantile in Yeso for 30 years. The family moved into Fort Sumner in 1968, Silvester worked as a custodian for Fort Sumner Public Schools for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He also farmed in the Fort Sumner valley, and assisted his wife with a USPS mail route from Taiban to House, NM. Silvester was an active member of St. Anthony Parish for many years where he served as an usher, Minister of the Eucharist, and Lector. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8331 in Fort Sumner. According to his family, Silvester enjoyed playing pool, working on the farm, and tinkering and repairing his farm equipment and vehicles. Silvester is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years Chonita Roybal, a son David Roybal in 2016, a granddaughter Jessica Robles in 2008, a great-grandson Jordan Roybal 2018, four sisters Adelina Lopez, Cleofas Sanchez, Mary Pedroza, Linda Bonney, four brothers Albino Roybal, Augustine Roybal, Napoleon Roybal, and Tiofilo Roybal Sr. Survivors include eight children, a daughter Michele Roybal of Fort Sumner, seven sons, Sylvester Roybal (Yolanda) of Edgewood, NM, Victor Roybal of Fort Sumner, Robert Roybal of Fort Sumner, Gary P. Roybal (Ruby) of Roswell, Donald Roybal of Fort Sumner, Thomas Roybal (Zina) of Fort Sumner, and Eric Roybal of Fort Sumner, also surviving is one a brother Silviano Roybal of Clovis, 17 grandchildren and 30+ great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
