It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Kay Reid on Friday, August 16, 2024 in Logan, New Mexico. Sharon was born January 16, 1949 in Tulia, Texas. She spent many years doing the accounting at the business she and her husband owned, while also working at Occidental Petroleum, until she retired in 2017. Sharon dedicated her time to her family, community, and personal passions.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Logan, where she found a strong community of spiritual friends. Sharon had a zest for life and a passion for helping others, which she expressed through her significant involvement in organizing numerous chuckwagon cookoffs, volunteering with the Logan/Ute Lake and Quay County Chambers of Commerce, and with the Friends of Ute Lake, demonstrating her commitment to community development and support.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Reid, daughter Alicia Frazier and her husband Paul, son Rick Reid and his wife Sonya, son Eric Reid, grandchildren Bailey, Reid and Danielle Frazier, and Kimberly and Kelly Reid, sister Clydene Freeman, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A lover of animals, Sharon cherished spending time with her dogs, Kinsey and Kirby, and her cat Samantha. She loved to feed the birds in her back yard, the deer and turkey in her front yard, and the stray cats living around the shop, much to her husband’s dismay. She was a fervent supporter of the Denver Broncos, holding season tickets for many years, and attending as many games as she could get Dick to tolerate going to.
Sharon will be remembered for her generous spirit, her community involvement, and her unwavering belief that she was always right.
A memorial service for Sharon will be Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11AM at the First Baptist Church in Logan with Pastor Stephen Kulback officiating. Urn Bearers will include: Bailey and Danielle Frazier and Kimberly and Kelly Reid and Reid Frazier as an Honorary Urn Bearer.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that a donation in Sharon’s memory be made to Paws and Claws Animal Rescue in Tucumcari, NM.
Services are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S. Third St., Santa Rosa, NM 88435. 575-472-3369. To place an online condolence or tribute, kindly visit www.chavezfuneralhome.com.
