Samuel “Sam” Boyd, 73 a resident of the Fort Sumner valley passed away at his home Friday, July 29, 2022. He was born January 11, 1949 in Carlsbad, NM to the home of Dean and Vennie Lou (Nichols) Boyd. Sam grew up in Carlsbad. He graduated from Capitan High School in Capitan, NM and received his Bachelor Degree from New Mexico State University. Sam retired from De Baca County as a Certified Operator for the County Transfer Station. He worked during the transition from a landfill to the current transfer station. According to Sam’s family, he was an avid hunter of all big game. He loved the sport of shooting. He competed in F-Class, silhouette, and other shooting sports. Sam could make a tasty barbeque sauce and would host a barbecue frequently for friends and family. Sam is preceded in death by his father Dean Boyd, his mother Vennie Lou Gregory in 2017, and his wife Barbara Boyd in 2021. Survivors include two daughters, Dottie Wade (Dub) of Lubbock, TX, Nanette LaShay (David) of Portola Valley, CA, a brother Curtis Boyd (Toni) of Clovis, a grandson Leo Wade and a granddaughter Lillian Wade. Sam’s family would like to thank his neighbor, Suzy Reeves for all her help and the Fort Sumner Senior Citizens Center for their meal delivery service.
