Roy Arthur Sloan, 88 of Fort Sumner, New Mexico passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at his home following an illness. Roy was born March 31, 1932 in Cleveland, Kansas the son of Arthur Martin Sloan and the former Allie Jane Rickard. He was raised in Cleveland where he attended schools, he graduated from High School in Kingman, Kansas in 1950. Roy served in the U.S. Army as a member of Company G, 19th Infantry Regiment and included a tour of duty in Korea. His commendations include the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Roy was honorably discharged on February 11, 1955. He married Velma Moyer in California. She precedes him in death. Roy served as minister of the The Church of the Nazarene. He graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK and graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. He served at several Nazarene Church locations including, Regent, ND, Knowles, OK, Clinton, OK, Clovis, NM, Broadview, NM, and Fort Sumner, NM. While living in Fort Sumner, Roy met Sue Crenshaw, they were married in Fort Sumner on June 15, 1992, she preceded him in death on December 20, 2006. According to his family while growing up in Kansas, Roy loved farming, riding horseback, and loved all animals. Roy is survived by two sisters, Donna Willard and her husband Merrill of Buhler, KS, and Dorothy Sloan of Kingman, KS, a nephew Terrill Willard and his wife Angela of Phoenix, AZ, and a niece Sherry Willard of Surprise, AZ, two great-niece Paige Burns of Surprise, AZ, Mikayla Lander of Wilmington, NC, and a great-nephew Brandon Burns of Surprise, AZ. Roy’s Fort Sumner family, the Crenshaw’s include Ron Crenshaw and his wife Rhonda of Portales, NM, Cari Dickerman and her husband Gary of Texico, NM, Kim Crenshaw and Joy of Maricopa, AZ, Cameron, Gabe, and Maryelle Dickerman of Texico, NM and Everett and Emilio Crenshaw of Maricopa, AZ, along with a host of friends.
