Ronald Eugene Lunn, 63 of Melrose, NM passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. He was born January 15, 1961 in Houston, Missouri to the home of Wayne Eugene and Daisy (Cummins) Lunn. He grew up in Salem, MO and attended Salem High School, graduating in 1979.
Ronald served in the United States Marine Corps for 7 years beginning in 1987. His citations include Rifle Expert Badge, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Commanding General Certificate of Achievement, Humanitarian Service Medal, and a Letter of Commendation. Sgt. Ronald Eugene Lunn was honorably discharged on July 18, 1994.
Ronald worked for the Consolidated Freight Docks in Fontana, California in the early 90's, he later moved to NM where he worked as a corrections officer for G.E.O. Prison in Santa Rosa from 1998-2004. Ronald made his home in Melrose where he worked as a U.S. Postal Service Mail Carrier from 2005 until his retirement in 2021. He also worked for Cargill Processing and Allsups. Ronald was a member of First Baptist Church in Melrose. He enjoyed collecting sports cards, working on the farm with his pigs, goats, sheep, and cattle.
Ronald married Patricia Northrup on May 8, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Melrose.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Shiloh Northrup in 2007, sister Ina Broughton in 2006, a nephew Joey Lunn in 2014, and his brother in law Lloyd Walberg in 2011.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Lunn of Melrose, children Cristy Lunn (Heidi) of Tucumcari, NM, Tim Lunn (Tara) of Utah, Brittany Lunn of Florida, Roby Northrup (Kendra) of Midland, TX, Cordell Northrup of Melrose, and Victoria Northrup of Clovis. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, a brother Greg Lunn of Tucumcari, and Barbara Walberg of Tucumcari along with a host of friends and other relatives.
Memorial contributions to assist with funeral expenses may be made to the funeral home.
Visitation hours will be 1pm to 6pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Chavez Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tyler Eanes, pastor of First Baptist Church in Melrose officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Melrose Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Tim Lunn, Cristy Lunn, Greg Lunn, Jesse Lunn, Roby Northrup, Cordell Northrup, Keagan Lunn, CJ Eshleman, and Jacob McGray. Honorary bearers will include all his friends, family and the Post Office crew.
