Robert Roybal, 73 a lifelong resident of Fort Sumner, NM passed away at his home Tuesday, April 22, 2025 following an illness.
He was born October 31, 1951 in Fort Sumner to the home of Sylvester and Chonita (Sanchez) Roybal. He grew up in Fort Sumner and attended Fort Sumner school. He is a graduate of Fort Sumner High School. He participated in track. In 1971 and was part of the track team that won the Fox Relays. It was a great accomplishment against the larger NM schools. Following graduation Robert served in the U.S. Marines from July 14, 1971 until his honorable discharge on July 5, 1973 with the rank of Corporal.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and a brother David Roybal. Survivors include seven siblings. a sister Michelle Roybal, six brothers Sylvester Roybal and his wife Yolanda of Albuquerque, NM, Victor Roybal, Tommy Roybal, Donald Roybal, and Eric Roybal all of Fort Sumner and Gary Roybal and his wife Ruby of Roswell, NM along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2025 at St. Anthony Cemetery in Fort Sumner with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps.
