Ramona Barela Sena, 96 a lifelong resident of Fort Sumner, NM passed away at her daughter’s home in Clovis, NM Saturday, October 14, 2023. Her loving family was at her bedside. Ramona was born March 11, 1927 in Fort Sumner to the home of Espiridion and Carolina (Hull) Barela. She grew up in Fort Sumner where she attended schools. Ramona married Ramon Alfredo Sena on January 18, 1944 in Fort Sumner.
Ramona was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ramon Alfredo Sena in 1988, six sons Florentino Sena, Ramon F. Sena, Jose Sena, Manuel Sena, and infant sons Juanito and Christino, six brothers Ricardo Barela, Frank Barela, Willie Barela, Elias Barela, Daniel Barela, Felix Barela, three sisters Macedonia Lopez, Mary Maes, and Frances Pena, and four grandchildren Tino Sena, Julian Montano, Alfred Sena, and Daniel Sena.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Ramona will be missed by her family. Survivors include three daughters Helen Sena, Juanita (Jerry) Mondragon, and Christina Garcia all of Clovis, one brother Manuel Barela of Clovis, nine grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation hours will be Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 1pm to 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM.
Holy Rosary and the funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner with her nephew, Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Johnny Sena, Christopher Mondragon, Benjamin Mondragon, Jacob Garcia, Joshua Wickham, and J.C. Sena. Honorary bearers will be all her relatives, friends, and the PRMC Home Health and Hospice Staff.
