Peggy Myers

Peggy Joann Myers, 89 of Slaton, Texas passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022. She was born August 19, 1933 in Fort Sumner, NM in the two room adobe home of James T. and Margaret (Byars) West. Peggy attended school all twelve years in Ft. Sumner and attended college at New Mexico State University. She learned to play the saxophone in the fourth grade and continued playing throughout high school. She earned state band honors. She was a cheerleader in high school and in college. Peggy was awarded the Sun Bowl Princess in 1953 in El Paso, Texas. She was a member of the Rainbow girls, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a 4-H member. Peggy worked for many years as a legal secretary for Lubbock Title and Abstract Company. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Peggy believed everyone should learn how to cowboy. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Margaret West, and an infant daughter Baby Craddock in 1955. Survivors include a daughter Debbie Thurman of Slaton, TX, a brother and sister-in-law James L. and Kathy West of Fort Sumner, three grandchildren Stephanie Siler, Dylan Thurman and Sterlyng Thurman. She has three great grandchildren who loved and adored her. Cremation will take place. No local services are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
