Moses Marquez, 64, of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away on December 27, 2024.
Moses was born in Las Vegas, NM, on February 8, 1960, to Filadelfio Marquez and Mary (Romo) Marquez, and raised in Anton Chico, NM. He attended Anton Chico Schools, and Santa Rosa High School, and graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1978. Moses attended New Mexico Highlands University and graduated from Spalding University in Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Communications in May 1983. He worked at the Jefferson County Law Library from 1980 to 1983 and was a manager at Bakers’ Shoes in Santa Fe, NM, Albuquerque NM, Farmington NM, and Grand Junction, CO from 1983 to 1995. Moses was a director and an educator for the Student Alternative Program in Van Horn, TX, and San Elizario, TX. He returned to Las Vegas, NM, and worked for Luna Community College as the Director of Recruitment and Admissions from 1997 until his retirement in 2022.
Moses served as President of the NMEC, Inc. and was an Anton Chico Land Grant member. His great-grandfather, Don Lorenzo Marquez of Santa Fe, was one of the founding members who established the San Miquel de Bado and Anton Chico Land Grants.
Moses will be remembered for his humility, sense of humor, and ability to play practical jokes. He loved his beautiful cats, Cutie Pie and Blue Boy. He also loved photography and cheered for his favorite football team, Las Vegas Raiders.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Filadelfio and Mary Marquez, brother Martin Marquez, sister-in-law Evelyn Marquez, nephew-in-law, Rudy Mosley, and great niece LoReina Trujillo.
Moses is survived by his sisters, Teresa Trujillo (Henry) of Las Vegas, NM, and Mona Quintana (Sal) of Lone Tree, CO, brothers, Deacon Marvin Marquez (Stella) of Santa Rosa, NM, Matthew Marquez of Las Vegas, NM, Goddaughter, Jeanette Trujillo of Andrews Air Force Base, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Marquez family wishes to thank Kathy Marquez Gonzales, Phillip and LouAnn Marquez, and Anthony and Michelle Marquez for their care and support of Moses.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1-4PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary is scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2025, at 7PM at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas, NM. Visitation will be prior to the rosary from 6-7PM at the church.
The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10AM at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico, NM with his brother Deacon Marvin Marquez officiating the service. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9-10AM at the church.
Interment will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Anton Chico with Jesse Gallegos, Philip Romero, Phillip Marquez, Anthony Marquez and Jonathan Marquez serving as Pallbearers.
Honorary Pallbearers are Nash Segura, Martin Garcia, Henry Trujillo, Theo Trujillo, Shannon Brown, Adrian Trujillo, Ben Kalminson, Jared Frietze, Norman Duran, Damien Marquez, Mario Marquez, Larry Ulmer, Jeremiah Marquez, Sal Quintana, Tom Herrera and Michael Quintana.
