Mary Alice Perez

Mary Alice Perez, 90 of Vaughn, NM, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, March 3, 2023. 

Mary Alice was born on December 27, 1932, in Buchanan, NM to Ramon and Sara (Barrio) Perez.  Mary Alice was raised in Vaughn, where she also attended school and graduated from Vaughn High School.  Mary Alice went on to attend ENMU, earning her Masters in Education.

In 1953, Mary Alice married Raymond Perez at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn.  In her teaching career, Mary Alice taught in Magdalena, NM for one year, while the remainder of her teaching career was in Vaughn, from 1976 to 2000.  Mary Alice and her family ranched near Vaughn most of her life, later moving to Vaughn some 3 years ago.  A life-long Catholic, Mary Alice was a devout parishioner at St. Mary’s in Vaughn.  Mary Alice was also active in Beta Sigma Phi, in NM Wool Growers Association and NM Cattlemen’s Association. 

In her free time, Mary Alice loved to go to movies at the theatre, and loved TV, reading the newspapers, magazines, crossword puzzles and doing sudoku.  However, Mary Alice’s greatest joy came from the time she spent with her loving family.

Mary Alice is preceded in death by her parents, her sister: Carmen Perez Alonso, her brothers: Albert Perez and Ramon Perez, Jr., sister-in-law: Corinne Rivera Perez, brother-in-law: Manolo Alonso and daughter-in-law: Rhonda Thieman.

Mary Alice is survived by her children: Domenic Perez of Vaughn, Gregory Perez of Albuquerque, Vincent (Debbie) Perez of Vaughn and Ricca Perez of Vaughn.  Her grandchildren: Alie Perez of Olympia, Washington and Seth Perez of Copalis Beach, Washington and her sister: Anna Perez Osle of Albuquerque, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends. 

Visitation will be Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 10-10:55AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11AM at St. Mary’s on March 11, 2023, and will be officiated by Father Sotero Sena.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, in Vaughn, with Albert Perez, Gregory Masci, Bruce Dereta, Adrian Daniel, John Spencieri and Adam Lujan serving as Pallbearers.  Honorary Pallbearers will include: Frank Perez, Lane McKellar, Manolo Lopez, Antonio Uria and Joe Vicente.
