Mary Ann Hisel, 85 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at her home after a long and fruitful life. She was born June 19, 1937 in Fort Sumner to the home of Dan W. and Annie Pearl (Gray) Waller. Mary Ann grew up in Fort Sumner and attended Fort Sumner Schools. Mary Ann married Don Lewis Hisel on June 11, 1953 in Santa Rosa, NM. They made their home in Pastura, NM for a time before moving to Las Cruces where Don received his teaching degree. They made their home in Park View/Tierra Amarilla, Animas, and Hatch, before moving to the Hisel family ranch in Yeso in 1969. Mary Ann was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner where she served on the kitchen committee. She was also active in the community; she served 12 years on the Fort Sumner School Board from 1970-1982. She was also a longtime member of Cowbelles and Farm Bureau. Mary Ann received her cosmetology license in Clovis, NM and worked as a cosmetologist in Fort Sumner. Mary Ann served as Post Master at the Yeso, NM post office for many years. She was awarded Post Master of the year in 1995. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dan Waller in 1968, Annie Pearl Waller in 2008, her husband Don Hisel in 1995, her mother and father-in-law Glenn and Adaline Hisel, two brothers-in-law Bobby Lutrick and G.B. Hisel, and a close cousin Forrest Waller. A loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Mary Ann will be missed by her family, two daughters Jackie Hobbs (Richard) of Grants, NM, Shelly Bell (Bob) of Roswell, and a son Lewis Hisel (Lori) of Yeso, NM. One sister Pearleen Lutrick and her family of Estancia, NM, six grandchildren Jessica Hobbs (Sean Nelson) of New Mexico, Isaac Hobbs (Margaret) of Roswell, Robert Bell (Tiffany) of New Hampshire, Richard Bell (Adri) of Roswell, Garrett Hisel of Fort Sumner, and Jordan Hisel of Yeso. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren Aspen Cooper, Patrick Nelson, Saffron Nelson, Kaylee Bell, Robin Bell, Tristan Bell, Evie Bell, Emma Bell, and Ellie Bell, along with her extended family at First Baptist Church, neighbors, other relatives and many good friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 1pm to 6pm in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 19, 2022 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Dr. Joe Bunce officiating. Interment will follow in the Hisel family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Richard Hobbs, Isaac Hobbs, Bob Bell, Richard Bell, Garrett Hisel, Sean Nelson, and Ramon Paredez. Honorary bearers will include Robert Bell and Phil Smith. The family requests contributions in memory of Mary Ann Hisel to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P. O.
