Martin M. Martinez

Martin M. Martinez, 59 of Albuquerque, NM passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Martin was born on August 17, 1965 in Santa Rosa, NM to Joe Eddie Martinez and Elizabeth (Anaya) Martinez. He was raised in Santa Rosa, where he attended school and graduated from Santa Rosa High School. He attended ENMU in Portales, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology for Criminal Justice, with a minor in Political Science.

A life-long catholic, Martin was a parishioner at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande in Albuquerque. Martin worked for the state of New Mexico Probation and Parole, was a Federal Pre-Trial Services and Probation Officer and Santa Rosa, NM City Manager. Martin was involved with the Kolbe Prison Ministry with the Diocese of Amarillo and was a firearms instructor for the Northern District of Texas and Las Cruces, NM divisions. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a recruiter and was also a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. His education and career took him to Portales, Las Cruces, Amarillo, Santa Rosa and later retiring in Albuquerque.

His hobbies included playing chess with his children, fishing, attending sporting events, cycling, camping, swimming in Blue Hole—when he was younger, BBQing, attending BBQing competitions and rooting for NMSU and ENMU.

Martin is preceded in death by his daughter: Gabrielle Martinez, his parents: Joe Eddie and Elizabeth Martinez, niece: Sarah Calderon, uncles: Delfie and Victor Anaya and aunt: Maida Gomez.

Survivors include: son: Derek Martinez and girlfriend Allison, of Washington state, daughter: Mariah Martinez of Albuquerque, granddaughters: AraLynn, Abigail and Amelia Martinez-of Washington state, mother of his children: Linda Martinez of Las Cruces, NM, siblings: Frances (Dean) Calderon of Round Rock, TX, Jeff (Fran) Martinez, Paul (Noel) Martinez-both of Albuquerque, Joe Eddie (Hope) Martinez, Jr. of Santa Rosa and Leslie (Danny) Martinez-Bradley, of Albuquerque, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 7:30PM at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa.

A graveside service will take place Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 12 noon at Nuestra Señora Del Refugio Cemetery in Puerto De Luna, NM, with Deacon Marvin Marquez officiating. Interment of cremains will follow next to his daughter Gabby.
