Martha Louise Chavez, 61 of Santa Rosa passed away Saturday, October 09, 2021 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. She was born June 8, 1960 in Tucumcari, NM the daughter of Antonio and Magdalena (Marquez) Chavez. Martha grew up in Puerto De Luna, she attended Santa Rosa public schools and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1978. Following high school she worked as a nurses aide at Guadalupe County Hospital. In 1985 she moved to Taiwan where she attended Tau Nan University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. While living in Taiwan she worked as an English teacher and tutor until 1992. Following the sudden death of her mother in 1992, Martha returned to Puerto De Luna to care for her father. Martha made her home in Riveraville for the past 23 years. She worked as a Day Care Provider for several years, she also prepared taxes for over 15 years for many Santa Rosa residents. Martha was a member of Nuestra Senora Del Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna. She enjoyed playing computer games and attending to her fur baby dog Wee-Nee. Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Magdalena Chavez, six brothers Frank, Fred, Tony, Joe Nick, Isidoro, and an infant brother Joe Chavez, three sisters Emma Lopez, Cresencia Olives, and Lupita Cain, three nephews Robert Wayne Marquez, Jason Paul Marquez, and George Ernest Marquez. Martha is survived by Robert Chavez, her companion of 23 years of Riveraville, a daughter Juanita McIntosh and husband Alfred of Puerto De Luna, NM, three brothers Juan Chavez and wife Barbara of Fort Sumner, George Marquez of Santa Rosa, and Robert Marquez of Clovis also surviving is a special sister in law Lucy Chavez of Santa Fe and her three Aunties Esme Zamora of Panhandle, TX, Rose Lopez of Santa Rosa, and Theresa Encinias of Las Vegas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours for family and friends will be Monday, October 11th from 1pm to 6pm at the Chavez Funeral Home. Viewing will also be held on Tuesday from 9am to 10am at the church. The Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, NM with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Pallbearers were Martha's cousins Billy Lopez, Jason Lopez, Delbert Marquez, Arthur Marquez, Kennedy Marquez, and Jerome Encinias. Cremation followed the services and interment of the cremains was held at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 21, 2021 with her parents at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa.
