Mark "Pete" Boyd

Mark Alan “Pete” Boyd, 62 of Portales, NM passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at St. Anthony Healthcare and Rehab in Clovis following an illness. Pete was born August 2, 1960 in Fort Sumner to the home of Howard and Blanche (Anderson) Boyd.

Pete attended Fort Sumner schools and graduated with the FSHS class of 1978. He continued his
education at South Plains College in Levelland, TX. Pete enjoyed rodeo and participated all through high school and college. According to his family his “greatest” experience was winning the Wild Cow Milking Contest at Pioneer Days Rodeo. He participated in the event on a bet with a friend. It was fun for the entire family.

Pete was a partner for 15 years with Foster Construction Company in Portales, designing and
constructing metal buildings. He retired following an illness in 2021. Pete was a member of the Floyd Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending his time with his grandchildren, leatherworks, and taking chances on lottery scratchers.

Pete is preceded in death by his dad, Howard Boyd in 1992, his mom, Blanche Boyd in 2020, a nephew Darrel Luce in 1987 along with several aunts, and uncles.

Survivors include two sons, Pete Boyd and wife Shaina of Portales, NM, Adam Boyd and wife Chrystal of New Braunfels, TX, the mother of his children Diana Childers of Lubbock, TX. Also surviving are five grandchildren Colby Boyd, London Boyd, Silas Boyd, Nicholas Knight, and Allie Boyd. Pete’s siblings, Glen “Shine” Boyd of Fort Sumner, Carl “Cotton” Boyd and wife Linda of Fort Sumner, and Donna Luce and husband Dennis of Fort Sumner along with a host of other relatives and many good friends.

Visitation hours for family and friends will be Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 1pm to 6pm at the
Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. Viewing will also take place on Thursday from 9am to 10am at the Dora Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, March 2, 2023 from the Dora Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in the Boyd family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Pete Boyd, Adam Boyd, Justin Boyd, Dusty Luce, Michael Hodges, Sam Fech, Colby Boyd, and Nicholas Knight.
