Our father and brother, Margarito Chavez earned his wings to heaven on December 7, 2024.
Margarito was born on August 23, 1945 in La Palma, NM to Ambrosio Chavez and Ceria (Trujillo) Chavez. Margarito proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict. Following his service, Margarito worked the BNSF for 20 years before retiring in the late 1990’s.
Margarito was the most giving and loving person, who was also witty and had a joke for everyone. However, Margarito’s greatest attribute was that he loved unconditionally.
The family would like to thank Andrea Martinez, his caregiver from Southwest Homecare and also the community of Vaughn.
Margarito is preceded in death by his beloved wife: Joann (Madril) Chavez in 2016, his son: Ambrosio Chavez in 1982, his parents: Ambrosio and Ceria Chavez, his in-laws: Guadalupe and Dionesia Madril, sister: Catalina Chavez Baca and her husband: Venancio Baca, grandson: Santiago Monsivais, brothers-in-law: Liberato, Samuel and Jose Madril, sisters-in-law: Cornelia Madril, Diane Mirabal and Amelia Madril, nephews: Joseph Madril and Ralph Chavez, Jr. and nieces: Vicki Baca Castillo and Teresa and Larissa Madril.
Margarito is survived by children: Adam and Erika Chavez of Santa Teresa, NM and Antonia Chavez of the family home, granddaughters: Cinthia Monsivais and Lizeth Rodriguez, great-grandchildren: Isabella, Nathaniel and Delilah Monsivais, Adalee Escareno, Aunt Celina Encinias, sister: Ida Villanueva (Domingo) of Portales, brother: Raphael Chavez (Lela) of Albuquerque, and brother: Gilbert Rodarte of Albuquerque, sisters-in-law: Tina Archibeque (Richard) of Belen, Berna Encinias (Grable) of Clovis, Mary Gonzales (Billy) of Clovis, Andrea Madril of Alamogordo, Eloisa Marez (Richard) of Albuquerque, Norma Marez (Clario) of Sedillo, brothers-in-law: Albert Madril (Cyndy) of Chaparral, Johnny Madril (Lucy) of Hobbs, Pablo Madril of Albuquerque and Mike Mirabal, Sr. of Tularosa. He is also survived by best friends: Marcy Cordova and cousin: Johnny Sanchez as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 9AM at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn, NM.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 14, 2024 beginning at 10AM, with Father Timothy Meurer officiating.
Interment, with Military Honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Vaughn, with Daniel Rivera, Marcy Cordova, Nicholas Chavez, Jude Villanueva, Alejandro Marez, Clario Marez, Jr. Edward Baca and Johnny Sanchez serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will include: the Vaughn BNSF Crew Section, Lorenzo Garcia, Benji and Venancio Baca and Charles (Smokey) Lueras.
