Macedon Chavez

Macedon Chavez, 73 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Guadalupe County Hospital.

Macedon was born to Isidoro Chavez and Sarita (Lerman) Chavez on May 18, 1950 in Santa Rosa.  Macedon was raised in Santa Rosa, where he also attended school—graduating from Santa Rosa High School in 1970.  Macedon, a life-long Catholic was a parishioner at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church.  In his career, Macedon was a cook/chef at various restaurants in Santa Rosa.

In his spare time, Macedon enjoyed weightlifting, watching football—he was a Redskins fan, he enjoyed watching Westerns and loved animals.  However, Macedon’s greatest joy came from the time he spent with family and friends. 

Macedon is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Guillermo Chavez and Arsenio (Archie) Chavez and his sisters: Marcelina Baca and Siria Lucero.

Macedon is survived by his sister: Mary Lou Chavez Maestas (Tony) of Cuervo, NM, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, December 17, 2023, from Noon-5PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, and viewing on Monday, December 18, 2023, from 8:15 - 8:50AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 18, 2023, beginning at 9AM at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, with Father Moses Nwankwo celebrating the Mass.

Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, in the family plot, with Frank Chavez, Andy Chavez, Vince Lucero, Isaac Chavez, Manuel Lucero, Mark Gallegos, David Gallegos, Rex Lucero, Martin Chavez, Stanley Chavez and Victor Maestas serving as Pallbearers.
