William Lyle Russ 65, of Fort Sumner passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas following an illness. He was born May 09, 1953 in Clovis, NM to the home of William "Glenn" and Wanda Lee (Miller) Russ. Lyle lived in Lovington, NM until the 4th grade when his family moved to Clovis for about two years. They settled in Fort Sumner where Lyle attended Fort Sumner Schools, graduating with the class of 1972. As a youngster, Lyle delivered the Amarillo newspaper from 1966-1969.Following graduation from high school, he worked for 3 years with a custom harvesting company in Texas and New Mexico. In 1975 Lyle made his home in Ruidoso, NM and for 20 years worked as an automotive mechanic including 16 years as a mechanic for Texas Power and Light Company. Lyle made Fort Sumner his home in 1995. Lyle also drove a truck for several companies including Plains Trucking, Finney Farms, Chock Nolan, and Western Dairy Transport.Lyle enjoyed hunting and fishing, he enjoyed deer hunting in New Mexico and Wyoming. He attended First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner.Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Wanda Russ.Survivors include three brothers, Bobby Russ (Joyce) of Fort Sumner, Eldon Russ (Sophia) of Clovis, and Loyd Russ of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are seven nieces and nephews, Glenn Russ (Renee) of Clovis, Valerie Russ of Portales, Eldon T. Russ of Clovis, Jennifer Jiminez (Joe) of Albuquerque, Melissa Barela (Tim) of Clovis, Luke Russ of Clovis, and Suzanne Budianto (Bambang) of Pensacola, FL along with 15 great nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.Visitation hours will be Thursday from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, August 3, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Anna Teeter-Gentile officiating. Interment will follow at 4pm (MST) in the Russ family plot, Sudan Cemetery, Sudan, Texas. Pallbearers will include Dennis Ready, Micky Cones, Hershell Dixon, Stan Dixon, Joe Gammill, Luke Russ, Eldon Russ Jr., and Glenn Russ.
