Lucy R. Anaya, 80 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at North West Texas Medical Center in Amarillo. She was born April 07, 1942 in Yeso, NM to the home of Rafael and Carolina (Levario) Roybal. Lucy attended elementary school in Yeso and her family moved to Fort Sumner where she attended middle school and high school, graduating with the Fort Sumner High School class of 1961. She married Robert Anaya on June 12, 1965 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Lucy worked with her mother as a cook at El Zoro Restaurant, she later worked as the Fort Sumner Senior Citizen's Director, worked as a clerk at Dave's Grocery, and for several years as the Nutritionist at Pecos Valley Care Center. She also worked at the Day Care Center in Fort Sumner. Lucy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner where she taught C.C.D. classes for several years. She enjoyed Bingo, tending to her yard, visiting with her family, and was always caring for her friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Anaya in 1986, a sister Mary Gloria Baltazar, four brothers Ignacio Roybal, Tommy Roybal, Lawrence Roybal, Johnny Roybal, sister in law Lucy Roybal, and two great nieces Kierra Lopez and Alexa Roybal. Lucy is survived by a daughter Roberta Anaya and grandson Brayden Anaya of Rio Rancho, NM, three brothers Rafael Roybal of Clovis, Manuel Roybal (Judy) of Fort Sumner, and Andy Roybal (Juanita) of Bernalillo. Also surviving is a sister in law Emilie Roybal of Silver City, NM along with 12 nieces and nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Sunday, August 21, 2022 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2022 from the church with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Chase Roybal, Brayden Anaya, Nakoma Roybal, J.D. Candela, Shane Lopez, Josiah Roybal and Joshua Roybal. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
