Lucio Samora, 75 of Rio Rancho, NM passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 30, 2025. His family was at his side. Lucio was born June 3, 1949 in Fort Sumner to the home of Nicholas and Leonorita (Gauna) Samora. He grew up in Fort Sumner and attended Fort Sumner Schools. While in school he participated in Fox Sports including Football, Basketball, and Track. Lucio graduated with the FSHS Class of 1969.
Lucio married Anna Bell Garcia on September 26, 1973 in Fort Sumner. They made their home in Fort Sumner where Lucio worked for the De Baca County Road Department for 10 years. He later worked for the BNSF Railroad where he was a Foreman and Welder for 18 years until his retirement. Lucio was a member of the BNSF Maintenance of Way Union. Lucio and Anna made their home in Roswell for 12 years before settling in Rio Rancho in 2019.
According to his family, Lucio was a wonderful friend to everyone, he never knew a stranger. He enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone. He was a good neighbor to everyone, no matter where he lived. He enjoyed golf, playing basketball, watching sports on TV, fishing and was a Dallas Cowboys Football fan. But, most especially, Lucio loved his family.
Lucio is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Nick Samora, five sisters Leticia Webb, Aurora Levario, Cecilia Servatius, Geraldine Conklin, and Eloisa Samora.
Survivors include his wife Anna Samora of the family home in Rio Rancho, NM, a daughter Michell Morley and husband Todd of Chandler, AZ, a son Kristopher Samora and his wife Lindsay of Rio Rancho, NM, four grandchildren Shaylee Morley of Chandler, AZ, Breanna Samora of Rio Rancho, NM, Jadon Morley of Chandler, AZ, and Chase Samora of Rio Rancho, NM. Also surviving are three brothers Raymond Samora Sr. of Roswell, NM, Sonny Sosteno Samora of Clovis, NM, Manuel Samora and his wife Cecilia of Albuquerque, NM, and one sister Corrine Marez and her husband Guillermo of Albuquerque, NM along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A Rosary will be rectied at 10:00 am Thursday, April 3, 2025 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Pallbearers will include Shaylee Morley, Breanna Samora, Jadon Morley, Chase Samora, Manuel Samora Jr., and Chad Samora. Honorary bearers will be Joe Bill Montgomery, Lorenzo Segura, along with all his family and many friends.
