Lucia Guadalupe Tapia, age 14, of Colorado Springs unexpectedly passed away January 2, 2019. Lucia was born October 27, 2004 in Clovis, NM. She is the daughter of Martin and Carol (Larranaga) Tapia of Colorado Springs, CO, and formerly of Portales, NM. Lucia was 2 when the family moved to Colorado Springs. She grew up, and attended schools in Colorado Springs, and was currently in the eighth grade at Sabin Middle School. Lucia loved the arts. She played the flute in band, enjoyed music and singing. She was a talented artist and loved drawing, painting and all types of arts and crafts as well as board games. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Bernardo and Socorro Tapia; maternal grandmother Lupita Larranaga and uncle Abel Tapia. Lucia is survived by her parents Martin and Carol Larranaga Tapia; a sister, Esperanza Tapia; a brother Alejandro Tapia all of Colorado Springs. Also surviving are her great aunts; "Nina-Wella" Elena Avila, Elvira Melero and Nancy Baca; godparents Mike and Lisa Tapia; her best friend Elisha Alinsinurin along with many aunts, uncles, relatives and many many friends. Visitation hours will be on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Chavez Funeral Home, 830 North Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM. Rosary Service will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 6:00 PM at Saint Helen Catholic Church in Portales, NM. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:00 am also at Saint Helen Catholic Church in Portales with Fr. John Brasher Officiating. Interment will follow at The Portales Cemetery in Portales, NM. Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony Martinez, Paul Sanchez, Benney Tapia, Xavier Avila, Elijah Tapia and Joaquin Larranaga.
