Leila Ione (Wilmeth) Kyle, age 82 passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Hillside Heights in Amarillo, Texas. She was born July 5, 1935 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of William Ross and Leila A. (Williams) Wilmeth. She attended Fort Sumner Schools. Leila married Vernon Glen “Red” Kyle on November 26, 1953 in Fort Sumner. Leila served for several years as De Baca County Clerk, secretary for De Baca County Extension Office, and worked for Bowlin’s Billy The Kid Museum. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and sewing. Leila was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner. She was a member of Eastern Star, and served as Mother Advisor for Rainbows, a longtime member of Cowbelles, and the Valley Quilting Club. She was involved with 4-H Leadership for many years. While living in Amarillo, TX Leila joined the Amarillo Senior’s Quilting Club and while living in Whitesboro she was a member of the Whitesboro History Club. Leila is preceded in death by her parents Ross and Leila Wilmeth, her husband Vernon “Red” Kyle, a son William Jeff Kyle, a sister Mary Ross Wilmeth, and a brother James Henry Jenkins. Survivors include a daughter Sandra Ione Kyle Mixon and her husband Terry of Amarillo, TX, two sons Pete Kyle and his wife Tamra of Amarillo, TX, Marshall Kyle and his wife Phyllis of Gainsville, TX, a daughter in law June Kyle of Fort Sumner, eight grandchildren Kylene (Brandon) Skipworth, Cody (Sarah) Mixon, Ryan (Megan) Kyle, Scott (Kacie) Kyle, Lainey (Robert) Barshofsky, Kari (Tyson) Henry, Courtney (Ryan) Drake, and Reed Kyle. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Leila’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Pastor Marvin Pounds officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Kyle family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
