Kurt "KC" Meairs

Kurt Meairs also known as K.C., or Coach Meairs, 58, of Santa Rosa, New Mexico passed away December 25, 2021 with his family by his side at UNM hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held January 7, 2022 at 2 pm at the Blue Hole Convention Center in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. He was born July 25, 1963 in Garden City, Kansas to Earl and Elizabeth Meairs. He was raised in Sublette, Kansas on the Meairs family farm. He moved to New Mexico with his wife and children in 1990, to raise cattle. He spent the rest of his life in Santa Rosa, where he spent his time raising his family, ranching, and was an active member in the community. He loved coaching basketball, but more importantly he enjoyed teaching the “fundamentals” of life. Spending time outside with his children and grandchildren, whether it was looking for arrowheads or on horseback was one of his favorite pastimes. He worked alongside his family and always said that this was the most important thing to him. He also enjoyed reading his bible every evening. Woodworking and catering was something he enjoyed doing with his wife. Kurt Meairs is survived by his wife of 37 years, Denise, his 4 children; Whitney Surratt (Jim Surratt), Jake Meairs (Lindsey Meairs), Martin Meairs, and Marcus Meairs; and his 2 grandchildren, Kayla and Coleman Surratt. His parents Earl Meairs and Elizabeth Meairs; and his siblings Rebecca Meairs, Scott Mearis, and Mickey Meairs (Shelly Meairs). Mother-in-law Sharon Spanier. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Ronald Spanier. Urn Bearers will include: Jake Meairs, Martin Mearis, Marcus Meairs, Jim Surratt, Coleman Surratt, and Zach Callahan. Honorary Urn Bearers are: Lindsey Meairs, Kayla Surratt, Jessica Gutierrez, Deja Rangel, Scott Meairs, Mickey Meairs, Stuart Spanier, Josh Jackson, Brian Salazar, and Robert Serrano III.
