Mrs. Joyce Juanita Brown, 88 of the Fort Sumner valley passed away Monday, March 01, 2021 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX following an illness. She was born on May 15, 1932 in Lamar County, Texas to the home of Hubert Oren Hume and the former Pauline Swindell. She attended elementary school in Deport, Texas and graduated from high school in Cunningham, TX. Joyce married Jimmy Jones in 1953 in Juarez, Mexico. They divorced in 1954. In 1955 she married Joseph Felty, he passed away in 1964. Joyce married Raymond Brown on July 3, 1965 in Portales, NM. Joyce worked in Clovis for several years. She worked for Magic Steam Laundry when they first opened. She later worked as a cook for Home Café in Clovis. Joyce and Raymond made their home in Fort Sumner in 1972. Joyce worked as a cook for Flying Twins Truck Stop for many years. Joyce grew up in the Baptist faith. She was a member of the Valley Quilting Club, served as a 4-H Leader for many years and was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed sewing and taking care of her livestock, and especially loved caring for her grandchildren and was always happiest with a house filled with family. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Raymond Brown on November 8, 2013, her mother Pauline Hume in 1942, her father Hubert Hume in 1961, a great grandson Joshua Robert Crispin, three brothers James Oren Hume, Royce Hume, William Hume, and one sister Rosalyn Hume. Survivors include six children, five daughters, Pauline Finney (Herbert) of Fort Sumner, Linda Boyd (Carl) of Fort Sumner, Rita York (Ralph) of Lake Sumner, Colleen Brown of Fort Sumner, Elaine Roberts (Ken) of Notrees, Texas, one son Joe Felty (Brenda) of Clovis. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours for family and friends was held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 1pm to 6pm at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Friday, March 5, 2021 at The Church on The Hill with Pastor Anna Teeter-Gentile officiating. Interment followed in the family plot at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers included Dwayne Finney, Guy Wayne York, Jason Felty, Justin Boyd, Jesse Davis, Cody Roberts, Austin Finney, Rayland Lovorn, Jimmy Lovorn, and Jaron Jones. Honorary bearers will include Lynita, Krystin, Randa, Crystal, Clayton, Logan, Keri, Jessica, J.J., Trinity, Jayden, Jason, Julie Anna, Jackson, Heidi, Amber, Jesse, Jamie, Josh, Jordan, Jennifer, Dalton, Stephen, Isabella, and Jeremiah.
