Josephine S. Martinez, of Tucumcari, NM passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2022, her 92nd birthday, surrounded by her children and grandchildren following an extended illness. Josephine was born on May 21, 1930, in Mosquero, NM to the home of Juan C. and Carolina (Pacheco) Sandoval. A lifelong Catholic, Josephine was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari. Josephine worked as a senior companion for many years, she enjoyed doing crafts, watching gameshows, and most especially spending time with her family. Josephine is preceded in death by her husband Joe Martinez, parents Juan and Carolina Sandoval, 3 daughters, 6 sons, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Survivors include her daughters Lillian Mendez, Dorothy Martinez, Stella Maes, and Annie Vargas (Martin), Godson Bernie Hernandez all of Tucumcari, NM, 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Mary Montiel of Tucumcari, NM and Viola Pacheco of Grover Beach, CA, and a brother Sammy Sandoval of Amarillo, TX. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 12:30pm at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, NM, with Father JohnPaul Afuecheta celebrating the Mass. Mrs. Martinez will be laid to rest at Tucumcari Memorial Park in Tucumcari, NM with Joey Martinez, Marcos Martinez, Chuey Mendez, J.J. Chavez, Johnny Joe Sanchez, and Jose Vargas serving and pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Hernandez, A.J. Griego and Jose Rodriguez.
