Jose Dan Romero, 75, a lifelong resident of Santa Rosa, NM passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, NM with his family at his side. Dan was born on July 26, 1947, in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Ernesto and Ismela (Fajardo) Romero. He grew up and attended school in Santa Rosa. Dan married Marcella Velasquez in 1987 in Santa Rosa.A lifelong Catholic, Dan was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. He worked as a cook for many years at Route 66 Restaurant in Santa Rosa, the Santa Rosa Campground, and maintenance at Guadalupe County Hospital, where he retired. Dan enjoyed playing the guitar, loved cruising, working on cars, fishing, and most especially spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. Dan is preceded in death by his parents Ernesto and Ismela Romero, wife Marcella Romero, and son-in-law Daniel Thompson. Survivors include his daughters: Tanya Romero (JD Reyes) of Plainview, TX, Geraldine Romero and Danielle Romero (Matthew Hoehne) all of Santa Rosa, NM; grandchildren: Devin Romero, Damitri and Kenneth Thompson, Ely Hoehne, CJ Rodriguez, Brandi Romero, Rudy Molina, Shai Romero, and Andrew Rodriguez; great-grandchildren: Elanor, Elliott, Reagan, Madison, Natalie, and Carmella; brothers: Merenciano Romero, Adolfo Romero (Dorothy), and Arthur “Tudy” Romero (Esther) all of Santa Rosa, NM, Arsenio Romero (Lucinda) of Las Vegas, NV, and a sister: Stella Gallegos (Ramon) of Puerto De Luna, NM, and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and many friends. Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 19, 2022 at 10am at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Father Christopher Bernabe will officiate. Burial of cremains will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Urn Bearers will include Dan’s siblings: Merenciano Romero, Adolfo Romero, Arthur Romero, Arsenio Romero and Stella Gallegos, and Matthew Hoehne, Devin Romero, Navor Selgado, Anthony Velasquez, Alex Velasquez and Manuel Velasquez.
