Johann Cartwright 83, passed away at her home in Fort Sumner, NM on August 08, 2024. Johann was born December 5, 1940 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of John and Georgia (VanBuskirk) Cartwright. She grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Lind Bloom High School in 1958.
Johann worked hard at numerous jobs. Johann and all her sisters worked for their father's cleaning business. She was the first woman to work at Central Steele and Wire. She worked different secretary jobs, and also worked in the banking profession. Johann owned her own book store in Chicago Ridge, JR's Book Nook. She retired from Evergreen National Bank in 1997.
Johann was a free spirit, and was known to pick up and move with just the things she could fit into her car. She lived in Chicago, IL, Carlsbad, NM, and Ada, Ok. She made her home in Fort Sumner in 1998. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Carlsbad, N.M. Johann enjoyed reading all kinds of books. She also enjoyed painting, and was learning how to play the guitar. She also loved walking her dog, Bozo.
Johann is preceded in death by her parents John and Georgia Cartwright; her older sister Delores Naughton in January of 2024; and her niece Laura Kincade.
Johann is survived by her sister, Jacie Cartwright of Worth, IL; two nephews George Cartwright of Worth, IL and John (Julie) Naughton of Blue Island, IL; two nieces Chrystal (Brian) Laakson of Orland Park, IL and Ann (Shawn) Ayers of Elgin, IL, along with other family and a host of many friends.
Cremation has taken place, with no services scheduled. Please keep Johann's family your prayers during this time.
