Jessie Matta, Jr.

Jessie Matta, Jr., 40 of Tecolotito, NM, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 10, 2022. Jessie was born on April 4, 1982 in Las Vegas, NM to Jessie Matta, Sr. and Irene (Villanueva) Matta. Jessie was raised in Tecolotito and attended school in Anton Chico, NM and Santa Rosa, NM—graduating from Santa Rosa High School in 2000. Jessie was self-employed as a landscaper and a vendor of firewood. Jessie was a parishioner at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico. In his spare time, Jessie enjoyed drawing, glass engraving, fishing and wood carving and wood burning. However, Jessie’s greatest joy came from the time he spent with his sons, family and friends. Jessie is preceded in death by his mother: Irene Matta de Villanueva, brother: Quirino Matta, grandmother: Erlinda Urioste, grandfather: Prudencio Villanueva, uncles: Quirino Villanueva, Benerito Urioste, Larry Matta and Alvio Matta, aunts: Bertha Arizzola, Liandra Martinez and Maria Martinez. Jessie is survived by his father: Jessie Matta, Sr. and wife: Lorraine Matta, of Tecolotito, sons: Vicente Flores, Ryan Matta, Keven Matta—all of Santa Rosa and Larry Matta of Las Vegas, NM, brothers: Patrick Villanueva (Angelica) of Anton Chico and Joe David Matta of Brownfield, TX, sisters: Erlinda Saiz (Mario) of Santa Rosa, Frances Maestas of Las Vegas, Jennifer Romero (Ricky Keys) of Moriarty, NM, Martha Matta (Alejandro Perez) of Dimmitt, TX and Angelica Sena (Angelo) of Santa Rosa. Jessie is also survived by his Nina and Nino: Christina Villanueva (late Larry Matta) and Domingo Villanueva (Irene), aunts: Angelica Villanueva, Laura Villanueva (late Quirino Villanueva), Dorothy Villanueva (Reynaldo) and Ruby Urioste (late Benerito Urioste), uncles: Richard Villanueva and Roger Villanueva (Trish), as well as many nephews, nieces, family, and friends. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, from 2-6 PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, NM, and on Thursday, June 15, 2022, from 9 - 9:50 AM at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico, NM. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary followed by a Communion Service will take place on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 10 AM from San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico, NM, with Deacon Marvin Marquez officiating. Burial to follow at Sangre de Cristo Cemetery in Upper Anton Chico, NM. Pallbearers will be: Vicente Flores, Ryan Matta, Keven Matta, Patrick Villanueva, Alonzo Romero, Patrick Jessie Villanueva, Ruben Saiz, III and Mario Saiz. Honorary Pallbearer will be Larry Matta.
