Jerry G. Shorter, 62 a longtime resident of Columbus, Ohio passed away at his sister’s home in Fort Sumner, NM following an extended illness.
Jerry was born June 22, 1962 in Hinton, West Virginia to the home of Ira Taylor Shorter and Viola (Hubbard) Shorter. He grew up in Bent Mountain/Lerona, West Virginia. Jerry attended Athens High School in Athens, WV.
Jerry made his home in Columbus, Ohio where he worked for many years as a Transport Bus Driver with Avis Car Rental at Columbus International Airport.
He was a member of Moose International, Legion #35 in Columbus, OH. He began as a youngster, collecting die cast cars and accumulated over 400 over the years. He passed this on to a family member. He also enjoyed attending car shows, and inspecting all the old cars.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law Judy and Joe Justice who died in 1966, and a sister Eva Faye Kirk who died in 2017.
Survivors include four siblings, two brothers Alvin Shorter (Dawn) of Silver Springs, Florida, Michael Shorter (Trecee) of Princton, West Virginia, two sisters Marcella Justice (Eldon) of Narrows, Virginia, and his twin sister, Teri Shorter of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces including Christina Shorter (Danny) who helped care for Jerry while he was living in Columbus, OH, and his friend and neighbor Jose Aragon who came to sit and visit with Jerry and stayed with him when Teri had errands and doctors appointments.
No local services are planned. A family memorial will be held in the spring. Cremains will be placed at the Shorter Family Cemetery, Lerona, West Virginia.
