James ‘Jim’ Clayton Morgan Jr was born on January 29, 1943, in Denver, CO to Mr. and Mrs. James C. Morgan. Jim passed away on January 26, 2025, after a short battle with Bladder cancer.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Morgan, two sons Travis and Lance, two daughters Kandi and Trisha, six grandchildren in order of age: Tyler, Zachary, Brandon, Allyson, Alec, Justin and nine great grandchildren.
Jim was a graduate of Tucumcari High School and the University of New Mexico with a bachelor’s in electrical engineering. At that time, he was enlisted into the United States Navy, where he served a prestigious 20-year career as a Lieutenant Commander Naval Officer as a submariner and served on many vessels and duty stations.
After his career in the Navy, Jim was involved in the nuclear power industry at the Palo Verde nuclear power plant in Phoenix, AZ and the San Onofre power plant in San Clemente, CA as an outage coordinator.
Upon returning to Tucumcari, Jim was heavily involved in the wind energy technology program at Mesalands Community College by playing a pivotal role in procuring the funds to obtain a wind turbine on campus. Jim retired from the college as Chief Emeritus of Wind Technology.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife, Phyllis, and going out to eat, especially to grab a chocolate milkshake. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, going fishing and watching science fiction movies.
Jim will be dearly missed, and we all find comfort in knowing that he is in peace. We love you!
