Hubert Marshall

Hubert Rhea Marshall, 90 of Fort Sumner passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 06, 2021 following an illness. He was born June 15, 1930 in Fort Sumner to the home of Howard and Bertha (Kolar) Marshall. Hubert attended Fort Sumner schools and graduated from Fort Sumner High School. Following graduation he attended Highlands University where he played football. He lived with his brother Wilbert while attending Highlands. Hubert returned to Fort Sumner where he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Mae Conwell in 1950. They made their home in Socorro, NM where Hubert worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. A year later they returned to Fort Sumner where Hubert began work with the Soil Conservation Service as a Soil Conservation Technician until his retirement in 1985. His wife Shirley passed away on June 10, 2003. Hubert married Melva Denison on August 8, 2007. They enjoyed several years of travelling to visit family members. Hubert enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family. Following his retirement, Hubert spent his time on the family farm and ranching. He enjoyed buying, refurbishing, and selling travel trailers. Hubert is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Shirley Marshall in 2003, two brothers Robert Marshall and Wilbert Marshall, a sister Pearl Marshall, an infant daughter Linda, granddaughter Michawn Vick Rucker in 2008, and a grandson Keith Marshall on March 26, 2020. Survivors include his wife Melva Marshall of Fort Sumner, a son Thomas Marshall and his wife Tricia of Fort Sumner, a daughter Marcia Vick and her husband John of Sadler, TX, two grandsons Scott Marshall and Rex Vick, 11 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Visitation hours will be Tuesday, March 09, 2021 from 1pm to 6pm at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held at 11am, Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Pastor Marvin Pounds officiating. Interment will follow in the Marshall family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Casket bearers will include Scott Marshall, Rex Vick, Jesse Marshall, Jacob Rucker, Brett Marshall and Bryan Marshall.
