Guadalupe (Lupe) Ariaz, 97, of Santa Rosa, NM passed away peacefully at Los Vecinos Assisted Living Facility after a long illness on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Lupe was born on May 30, 1920 in Puerto De Luna, NM to the home of Juan Garcia and Emilia (Flores) Garcia. She was reared in Puerto De Luna where she attended school and later graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1936. On January 25, 1946, she married Arturo F. Ariaz in Puerto De Luna. Following their marriage, they settled in Santa Rosa, where they made their home and reared their children. Lupe’s professional career was a Caseworker for the Department of Human Services, where she worked for 30 plus years before retiring. She was an avid outdoor person who enjoyed gardening and ranch work—in fact, she was quite fond of reminding her family of her expertise as a cow hand. Lupe was a person of great personal faith and was a long-time parishioner of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Lupe is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, Arturo in 2002, a daughter; Barbara, son; Andrew, sisters; Mary Fajardo and Gilberta Padilla, and brothers; Ernest and Jose Garcia. She is survived by her daughters; Maryann (Wayland) Caldwell of Snyder, TX, Magdalena (Javier) Monserrat of Puerto De Luna, NM and sons; Arthur (Christine) Ariaz of Santa Rosa, NM and Albert (Dede) Ariaz of Tucumcari, NM. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; James Eddie Caldwell, Paula (Barry) Blackmon, Erica Chavez and Juaquin Bachicha, Arthur S. (Maria Elena) Ariaz, Lauren Ariaz, Ryan Ariaz and Aiden Ariaz. In addition, there are eleven great-grandchildren; Sara and Eliot Caldwell, Aaron, Evan and Reed Blackmon, Ricardo, Marcos, and Nicolas Chavez and Emiliana and Mateaus Ariaz, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Rosary will be recited from Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 7:00 P.M., with Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:00 A.M., officiated by Father Christopher Bernabe. Interment will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in the family plot. Visitation will be Sunday, April 1, 2018 from 1:00-6:00 P.M. and on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, NM. Serving as Pallbearers are Aaron Blackmon, Evan Blackmon, Reed Blackmon, Arthur Ariaz, III, Ryan Ariaz and Ricardo Chavez. All arrangements have been entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S.
