Greg L. Gallegos

Greg L. Gallegos, age 81, of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following a sudden illness. Greg was born June 25, 1941 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Rosauro and Juanita (Casaus) Gallegos. Greg grew up and attended schools in Fort Sumner. Greg married Maria Rita Lopez on October 6, 1962 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Greg and Rita raised their family in Fort Sumner. As a young man Greg worked as an usher at the ZIA Theatre, he later worked in the parts department at the local Dodge dealership and the Chevrolet dealership. For several years he worked as a custodian at De Baca General Hospital and as custodian at the U.S. Post Office. From 1967 until his retirement in 1992 Greg worked for the NM Department of Transportation. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Parish in Fort Sumner. He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 8331. In his spare time, Greg enjoyed watching western movies and tinkering in his shop. Greg is preceded in death by his parents, a son Paul Gallegos in 1976; three brothers Raymundo Gallegos, Rosauro Gallegos, Guadalupe Gallegos, five sisters Florence Gallegos, Rosarito Gallegos, Cecilia Greenier, Ernestine Sena, and Elsie Gallegos. Survivors include his wife Rita Gallegos of the family home in Fort Sumner, four sons; Steve Gallegos and wife Susan of Fort Sumner, Louie Gallegos and wife Kelley of Fort Sumner, Johnny Gallegos of Fort Sumner, and Peter Gallegos of Clovis, NM, one sister in law Rosie Gallegos of Tucson, AZ, along with nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Holy Rosary and the funeral Mass for Greg will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, October 27, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Urn bearer will be his son Johnny Gallegos, honorary urn bearers will be all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
