Gloria Salas

Gloria Mae Salas, 69 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at her home. Gloria was born August 9, 1951 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. She grew up in Santa Rosa where she attended school. Gloria worked as a waitress for many years in Santa Rosa at Shawford Restaurant, Travel Center of America, Dairy Queen, and the Sun n Sand Restaurant. For several years she worked for the SURE House in Santa Rosa. Gloria retired to Fort Sumner in 2004. She was a longtime member of St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa and St. Anthony Parish in Fort Sumner. She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Rose of Lima Court #2276. Gloria loved to bake, and was an excellent cook. She loved going for rides with her family. When she was able, she enjoyed going for walks, watched her Novellas, and was always ready to play bingo. Gloria is preceded in death by an infant daughter Dwina Gutierrez, her parents Miguel Salas, and Juanita Chavez, five brothers Tony, Raymond, Freddy, Martin, and Delbert Salas, three sisters Christine Garcia, Esther Griego, and Lucille Salas. Survivors include five sisters Perla Bailey of Santa Rosa, Martha Salas of Santa Rosa, Priscilla Aragon (Nick), of Los Lunas, Barbara Duke (John) of Fort Sumner and Samantha Cardenas (Hector) of Rio Rancho, also surviving is one brother Anthony Salas of Santa Rosa, her home health caregiver Delbert Marquez of Fort Sumner, along with a host of many loving nieces and nephews. Family visitation and Holy Rosary were recited at 1:00 pm Sunday, May 22, 2021 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner. Cremation will take place. Interment of cremains will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa, NM. We ask that you keep Gloria and her family in your prayers.
