Geraldine "Jerye" Carter, 78 of Roswell, NM passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday evening March 02, 2021. She was born March 14, 1942 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to the home of Arthur and Ollie (Trimmer) Hesson. She attended elementary school at a one room country school in Oak Hill, Oklahoma, and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1960. She attended Fresno City College in Fresno, CA where she received her Associate Degree in Nursing. Geraldine married David Lamar Carter on April 14, 1960 at Stillwater, OK. They made their home in several cities in NM where David worked for the Soil Conservation Service including Springer, Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Pecos, Fort Sumner, they also made their home in Clovis, CA before retiring to Roswell, NM. Geraldine worked as a travelling Nurse for many years and travelled throughout the United States. She also worked as an American National Insurance agent for several years. She enjoyed painting with oil. According to David she loved to paint and was good at it. Her son built her a paint studio at her Roswell home. Geraldine especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Geraldine is preceded in death by an infant son Monty Carter in 1961, her parents Arthur and Ollie Hesson, and two sisters Shirley Leisher and Kathleen Horton. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Jerye will be missed by her family. Survivors include David Carter, her husband of 61 years, two children, son Cody Scott Carter (Karen) of Hobbs, NM, daughter Terye Dawn Deimler of Roswell, six grandchildren Rebecca Cooper (Robert) of Portland, OR, Glenn R. Deimler Jr. (Marsha) of Roswell, Peter Issac Deimler of Roswell, Charles David Deimler (Brittney) of Portland, OR, Richard Lee Carter of Hobbs, NM, Faith Marie Carter of Hobbs, NM, four great-grandchildren Adam Robert Cooper of Portland, Carus Marie Cooper of Portland, Viktor Deimler of Roswell, Mikah Deimler of Portland, and Leilani Dunford of Portland. Also surviving are three sisters Elsie Howell of Clinton, OK, Lucy Jean Lyle of Leon, KS, and Donna Casey of Wintersville, GA along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Chavez Funeral Home from 1pm to 5pm on Friday, March 5, 2021 and on Saturday the family will receive friends from 9am to 11am prior to services. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 6, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Mr. Tom Davis officiating, a graveside interment service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic Social Distancing guidelines, the funeral service will be limited to the immediate family and close friends. A mask or face covering is required.
