Geraldine Garcia Barber born in Santa Rosa on July 27, 1933 to Lera and Martin Garcia, passed away on December 21, 2022 after a brief and unexpected illness. Her daughter and granddaughter were by her side when God called her home. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Over the recent years she enjoyed many cherished moments with her family. Geraldine lived life to the fullest. She loved music, dance, art, sewing, cooking, traveling and reading. Following the academic path of her parents, she pursued and earned a Bachelors degree from NMHU as an adult and single parent. Throughout her life she worked as a beautician, care giver and nurses aid, and loved helping the elderly. Her volunteer work included helping at the local assisted living center, veterans center and teaching prison inmates to read. She traveled extensively throughout the United States with her second husband Ted Barber. They made their home in Las Cruces where she was active in choir and cultural dance. After Ted’s death she returned to her home town and lived in the family home. She enjoyed her independence immensely including driving and caring for herself. She is survived by: Her children - James Bryan Brassell, Lisa Garcia Brassell and Jason Omar Brassell. Her grandchildren – Leslie Baca, Arthur Martin Mendibles, Aurora Sanchez, Anastacia Sanchez, and Jeneya Brassell. Her Great Grandchildren – Natalya, Camila, and Valerie Rae. Her sister Yvonne Delgado, and many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws. She is preceded in death by: Her parents Lera Huffman Garcia and Martin F. Garcia, her brothers Elbert and Delbert Garcia, her daughter Valerie Ann, the father of her children Jim Brassell and her 2nd husband Teddy Barber. Her spirit, love and kindness will be missed by all who knew her. Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by The Mass of Christian Burial, will be Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 10am at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM. Father Frederick Gruber will officiate. As per Geraldine's wishes, cremation will follow the services and burial of her cremains will take place at a later date.
