George R. Martin

George Riley Martin, 84 of Estancia, NM passed away Monday, April 20, 2020 at his home. He was born November 30,1935 in Clovis, NM to the home of Sam and Hazel (Hall) Martin. He was raised in Taiban, and Fort Sumner. George attended and graduated from Fort Sumner High School. He attended Oklahoma State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science. George married Mary Evelyn Waller on October 11, 1957. Thay made their home in Estancia in the 1960’s where George taught Vocational Agriculture for over 32 years. He was an FFA Sponsor, and served on the EMW Gas Company Board of Directors. George enjoyed raising livestock, working with junior livestock exhibitors at local and state fairs, and loved all activities involving his FFA students and their families. He also enjoyed. horse racing, fishing, and especially spending time with his family. George is preceded in death by his wife Mary Evelyn Martin in 2017, father Sam Martin in 1969, mother Hazel Martin Carr in 2001, two sisters Norma Lee Wood in 2013, and Ernestine Hagerman in 2002, and a half brother Ray Martin. Survivors include a son Dwight Martin and his wife Abbey of Moriarty, NM, a brother Herbert Martin of Lubbock, two grandchildren, Tye Martin of Moriarty and Kallye Walley and husband Justin of Soddy Daisy, TN along with other relatives and many dear friends and former students. Graveside services were held at 11:00 am Friday, April 24, 2020 Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico with family friend Reverend Wayne Brazil officiating. Due to the statewide restrictions pertaining to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the graveside service was limited to the immediate family. The family requests memorial contributions in memory of George Martin to your local FFA Chapter.
