Frank Eloy Chavez, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was called home by the Lord on December 5, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on January 13, 1953, in Cuervo, New Mexico, Frank was the son of Alfonso and Lucy Chavez. His life was a testament to his unwavering generosity, hard work, and profound love for those he held dear.
Raised in Cuervo, New Mexico, Frank graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1973, and married Anna in 1977. He later settled in Bernalillo, where he built a life filled with many memories and accomplishments. As a truck driver, he traveled the roads until his retirement in 1990. He was the proud father of three daughters, with whom he shared unique and special relationships. Frank was a man of many talents, a true jack of all trades who could tackle any project that came his way. His hands brought to life whatever he envisioned, whether it was a new creation or something that needed repair. Frank was known for his culinary experiments, delighting his family with meals that showcased his creativity in the kitchen. He had a love for the outdoors, where his heart was dedicated to farming and ranching. Frank raised cattle and alfalfa, and his affection for all animals was boundless.
Known as "the man in the black hat," Frank's love for his family and friends was evident in everything he did. He took joy in gathering loved ones in his barn, creating a space of warmth and belonging. Whether feeding others or offering a listening ear, Frank's generosity was limitless, and his kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Lucy Chavez, his unborn child, his brothers and sisters-in-law Joe Chavez, Rudy Chavez (Judy), Gene Chavez, Cecilio Chavez (Lucilla), and Theresa Chavez, as well as several nephews and a niece.
He is survived by Anna Chavez, the mother of his children; his three beautiful daughters and sons-in-law, Francine Chavez Reams (Greg), Hannah Chavez (Joseph), and Myra Chavez (Cory Ulibarri); his cherished grandchildren, Maya and Joliana Chavez, Charley and Henry Ulibarri; and his siblings MaryAnn Cruz, Gabriel Chavez, Danny Chavez (Joann), Rita Gallegos (Albert), sisters-in-law Imogene Chavez and Alice Chavez, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank's legacy of kindness and love lives on through his family and the many friends whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, NM on Friday, January 3, 2025. Rosary will begin at 10:00 am and Mass to follow. A gathering to honor Frank's life will be held at the Social Center (next to the church) to share memories and a meal following the Mass. Private burial will be scheduled at a later date. Urn bearers will include Joseph Chavez, Greg Reams, Cory Ulibarri, Henry Eloy Ulibarri. Honorary Urn Bearers: Dave Mueller, Godchildren: Matias E. Garza, Curtis Johnson, Derek Gallegos, Leah Cristobal, and Raul Chavez.
