Frances Evelyn Terrell (Doyle), 98 a longtime resident of the Fort Sumner valley passed away Wednesday evening, November 18, 2020 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. She was born January 24, 1922 in Idalou, Texas the daughter of Jeff Hunt Doyle and the former Nola Sidney Shaw of McAdoo, Texas. She grew up in west Texas and eastern New Mexico, attending schools at Fairview and Muleshoe. Frances married Joe W. Terrell on October 2, 1938 in Clovis, New Mexico. She worked many years as a nurse aide at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales and De Baca General Hospital in Fort Sumner. Following her retirement in 1990 she continued with in-home care for many area residents. Frances was an active member of First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner where she worked with the Children's School Activities. She served the community as a member of the Agency on Aging, the Valley Quilting Club, and the Home Extension Club. At home, she enjoyed working in her yard, handwork crocheting, embroidery, needle work, and reading. During the nearly 40 years of having children in school, she attended their many activities and school functions and sporting events. She was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren compete. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Nola Doyle, her husband of 50 years, Joe W. Terrell who died in 1989, a daughter Janice Louise Terrell, two grandsons Joseph Scott Terrell, and Shawn Dale Whatley, three sisters Hazel Wilkerson, Winifred West, and Mary Dodd, two brothers Andy Doyle and Kenneth Doyle. Survivors include seven children, two daughters Eloise H. VanVoorhis of Bellevue, Nebraska, Nola E. Terrell of Fort Sumner, five sons Thomas R. Terrell (Delores) of Atwater, MN, Joseph C. Terrell of Fort Sumner, Johnny Bob Terrell of NM, Monty G. Terrell of Fort Sumner, and Richard H. Terrell (Betty) of Fort Sumner, also surviving are two brothers Carl Doyle of San Antonio, TX, Glen Doyle (Sarah) of Portales, and one sister Jo Cornell of Clovis. Along with 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 8 great, great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Interment followed at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Drew Terrell, Seth Terrell, Jake Terrell, Daniel Terrell, Derrick Terrell, Caleb Terrell, and Cory Terrell will carry her to rest. Kevin Terrell, Angie Robinson, Stephen Boyd, Mark VanVoorhis, Wayne VanVoorhis, Lisa Walton, Amee VanVoorhis, Rodney Stout, Christy Whatley, Lea Gonzales, Sunnie Terrell, Sophia Cline, Sidney Terrell, Lindsey Terrell, Brianna Terrell, and Krystal Hall will support in spirit. Honorary bearers were deacons of First Baptist Church, Dick Haynes, Art Moyer, Nick Cortese, Don Sweet, Jerry Sparks, and Robin Simmons.
