Flora L Gallegos

Florinda "Flora" Gallegos, 88 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Wednesday evening, April 10, 2019 at her home following an illness. Her family was at her bedside. Flora was born May 13, 1930 in Clovis, NM the daughter of Antonio and Paublita (Gonzales) Lucero. She grew up in Clovis where she attended schools. She married Guadalupe Gallegos on September 1, 1948 in Clovis. Flora worked for many years as a hospital aide at Memorial Hospital and later Plains Regional Medical Center until her retirement in 1994.  Following her retirement Flora and Guadalupe made their home in Fort Sumner where Flora worked as an aide at the Pecos Valley Care Center until 2002. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Flora is preceded in death by her parents, a son Jimmy George Gallegos, a daughter Lucinda Camila Gallegos, three sisters infant sister Lucy Lucero, Hope Lucero, and Dolores Lucero, four brothers Raymond Lucero, Tony Lucero, Jose Lucero, and Estevan Lucero. She is survived by her husband of 70 years Guadalupe Gallegos of the family home in Fort Sumner, three sons Merenciano Gallegos of Oklahoma, Guadalupe "J.R." Gallegos of Fort Sumner, Teodoro (Shana) Gallegos of Clovis, three daughters Juanita Jones of Fort Sumner, Ruby Titterude of Everman, Texas, Rose Mary Heldt (Craig) of Clovis. Also surviving is a brother Adan Lucero of Clovis and two sisters Eva Gallegos of Fort Sumner and Emma Salazar of Clovis along with 24 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and former co-workers. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm at the Chavez Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM.
