Eugene B. (Geno) Higgins

Eugene B. (Geno) Higgins, 67 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away on June 19, 2023.

Eugene was born in Tucumcari, NM on February 14, 1956, to John R. Higgins and Willa (Cooper) Higgins.  Eugene was raised on the Higgins Ranch in Cuervo, NM.  He attended school in Santa Rosa—graduating from Santa Rosa High School.  Following graduation, Eugene attended Oklahoma State Tech, earning an Associate Degree as an HVAC Tech.

Eugene’s career included 10 years with Miller Metal in Albuquerque, NM and he also owned Higgins Mechanical.  With ownership of Higgins Mechanical and the completion of his MM 98 License, Eugene completed work on the Santa Rosa National Guard Armory, several new constructions at Cannon Air Force Base and the TA Truck Stop in Santa Rosa.  Eugene was also a member of the Local 412 Pipefitters Union.

Eugene was a member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ, where Silas Shortwell was his pastor.  A resident of Santa Rosa, Eugene loved to work, he loved to cowboy—was a bulldogger and bareback rider, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and particularly enjoyed hanging out with family and friends.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Fred L. Higgins and nephews: Joseph Higgins and Chris Higgins.

Eugene is survived by his children: Geno James (Amy) Higgins of Peralta, NM, Gerid (Debbie) Higgins of Ft. Sumner, NM and Maren Ashley Higgins of Canon City, CO.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kayla, Ashlynn, Charlotte and James of Peralta, NM and Rebecca of Ft. Sumner, NM.  Also surviving Eugene are his brothers: John R. (Eva) Higgins of Santa Rosa, NM, and Joe L. (Theresa) Higgins of Savanah, GA, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family, and friends.

A graveside service will take place Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11AM at the Cuervo Cemetery in Cuervo, NM, with Geno Higgins and Gerid Higgins officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Geno Higgins, Gerid Higgins, Joe Higgins, Shawn Higgins, James Campos, Powtan Carter, and Cody Shattschneider.
