Eladio Lopez Reyes, 85 of Tucumcari, NM passed away peacefully on October 14, 2021 in Santa Fe, NM. Eladio was born on October 1, 1936 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico to Eladio Lopez and Delores Reyes. Eladio was raised in Puerto Rico, where he also attended school. He was a veteran and proud of his service to his country. Eladio was a gentle man and child of God. He loved God and his family and never met a stranger. He was proud of his Puerto Rican heritage, passionate about his politics and thankful for each day of his life. Everyone called Eladio “Lopez” or “Mr. Lopez”, but those of us who knew him best called him Daddy and Dad, Grandpa and Eladio. His delight was in making his family laugh and seeing his family happy. He didn’t like a grumpy face, so he kept a smile of his own. Eladio is preceded in death by his parents and a son; Eladio Lopez, Jr. Eladio is survived by his wife; Dody Carter Payne, of the family home, daughters; Ana Ramirez (Jose) of Santa Ana, CA, Cynthia Garcia (Ron) of Moreno Valley, CA and Doreen Lopez of Tucumcari, NM, his sons; Anthony Lopez of Whittier, CA, Johnny Lopez (Melissa) of Cerritos, CA and Chad Wortman (Kathy) of Long Beach, CA, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Eladio is also survived by three sisters, one brother and numerous nephews, nieces, family, relatives and friends. Visitation for Eladio will be Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 12-12:50 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari. Immediately following viewing, the Mass of Christian Burial for Eladio will take place at 1pm at Saint Anne’s. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
