Dulce Serrano was born July 18, 1927 in Duran, NM to Juan and Estefanita Mares. She married Luis P. Serrano in Santa Rosa on July 25, 1949. They made their home in Santa Rosa before moving to Texas in 2006. She moved to the Craig Retirement Community in Amarillo in 2009. While there she made many friends and enjoyed many hobbies and social activities. She enjoyed painting, drawing, playing bingo and Skipbo, attending the Amarillo Symphony and the Amarillo Little Theater. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Santa Rosa and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Joseph Guild, catechism with Sister Anne. She attended Homemaker’s College at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces NM. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Dennis J. Serrano and a great grandson Shad Gandy. She is survived by her children. Christina & Randy Lopez, Louise & Fred Montoya, Janna & John Kiehl, Bernadine & Martin Young; grandchildren, Martin Lopez, Carmela & Toby Gandy, Erica Padilla, Janell Navarro, Zak & Terry Weed, Blane & Hannah Young, Spencer Young, Dennissa Young; great grandchildren, Caroline & Brian Ford, Cole and Bethany Gandy, Asia Gandy, Brody Gandy, Jeremiah Young; and one great-great grandchild Oakley Ann Gandy. She is also survived by a brother, Bobby Mares, sister-in-law Chona Mares, sister-in-law, Alice Romo brother-in-law Bobby Serrano and many special nieces and nephews. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary led by the Catholic Daughters will take place on Wednesday, February 16, 2021 at 12 noon at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, NM. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa, NM, with Deacon Marvin Marquez officiating. Services are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S.
