Dionicio Maes, 82 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas following an illness. He was born May 28, 1942 in Yeso, New Mexico to the home of Juan Cruz Maes and Emilia Maes.
Dionicio grew up in Fort Sumner and attended Fort Sumner schools. He worked on cattle ranches north of Yeso for many years. He also worked several years for Bennett Moving and Storage in Clovis, NM.
Dionicio was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. His favorite pastime was watching western movies and his Saturday outings with his family, especially drives in the Fort Sumner valley.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Pablo Maes, Gilbert Maes, George Maes, Juan Maes, and Pete Maes, two sisters Maria Baca and Maclovia Olivas, three nephews Dario Lopez Jr., George Sena Jr., David Gauna, and brothers-in-law Dario Lopez, and George Sena Jr.
Survivors include four sisters Ricardita Gauna (Vidal), Gloria Sena, Ellen Lopez, and Theresa Maes (Stash) all of Fort Sumner along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Viewing for family and friends will be held at 9am on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery.
