Cheryl Anne Kenyon, 66 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Sunset Villa in Roswell following an illness. She was born June 14, 1955 in Albuquerque, the daughter of Neuman and Peggy (Young) Merritt. She grew up in Bosque Farms and Fort Sumner. Cheryl graduated from Fort Sumner High School. She married Leslie David Kenyon on September 29, 1973 in Fort Sumner. Together they ranched. Cheryl was an all-around ranch hand and cook. She could change oil on a vehicle, doctor a horse, feed doggie calves, then cook a wonderful meal. Cheryl served a Madame President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. From 1987-1995 Cheryl helped to organize the “Play Days” at the De Baca County Rodeo Grounds. She loved gardening, fishing, riding horses, and roping. Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, her mother Peggy Merritt in 2005, her father Neuman Merritt in 2016, and a daughter Leslie Anne Kenyon in 1980. Survivors include her husband Leslie David “Smiley” Kenyon of Fort Sumner, two sons Rusty Kenyon and wife Amanda of Fort Sumner, Paul Kenyon and wife Rochelle of Bohol, Philippines, two sisters Patty Hudson and husband Kevin of O’Donnell, Texas and Debbie Willingham of Artesia. Also surviving are five grandchildren. Visitation hours will be Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 1pm to 6pm at the Chavez Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Pounds officiating. Interment will follow in the Kenyon family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Casket bearers will include Devlin Willingham, Kevin Hudson, Les Kenyon, Virgil Kenyon, Clifford Kenyon, and Jace Kenyon. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren Katelynn Kenyon, Madison Kenyon, Leslie Paul Kenyon Earl Kenyon, and Misty Dawn Kenyon.
