Well done good and faithful servant… Betty Jo (Hamlet) Garcia, age 90 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Retirement Ranch of Clovis. She was born August 20, 1930 in a little Texas town named, Old Glory. She met Francisco A. Garcia in Phoenix, Arizona. They were married on December 1, 1947 in Phoenix. At the age of 17 Betty began a journey with Frank that would span 66 years. Betty was half of a partnership that created five children, Kay, Debra, Francee, Franklin and John. Betty earned her LPN and worked at the De Baca General Hospital at Ft. Sumner NM while raising five children and helping Frank farm and ranch. Together they owned many businesses, through it all they were committed to the Lord Jesus Christ. Active members of First Baptist Church Ft. Sumner. Betty taught Sunday school, and as their children grew and expanded the Garcia family, a legacy of believers was created. Frank and Betty bought the Coronado Motel. Through this motel they spread the gospel of Jesus to all who stayed there. Betty was committed to making sure anyone who stayed with her would leave knowing the way to Christ. A loving Mother and Grandmother, if you were considered one of hers, you were fervently and regularly prayed for. Betty’s greatest peace came from reading and studying God’s word. Today she meets her Lord and is Joyfully rejoicing with her beloved partner Frank awaiting the rest of us. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Frank Garcia on January 16, 2004, her parents Joseph and Katherine (McDearman) Hamlett, and a son in law Robert White. Survivors include five children, three daughters, Kay Larson (Richard) of Las Cruces, Debra White of Amarillo, Francisca Blaylock of Clovis, two sons Franklin Garcia (Lori) of Yorba Linda, CA and Johnny Garcia (Sherri) of Fort Sumner. Also surviving is one sister Charlene Walling of Tulsa, OK along with 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services were held at 2:00pm Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Fort Sumner Cemetery with Dr. Joe Bunce, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Her grandchildren served as casket bearers. Due to the current NM Department of Health Order, services were limited to the family. We ask that you keep Betty and her family in your prayers.
